I have made it to my 100th post! It seems that this is one milestone that I have reached today. Another is that I have reached a conclusion on my long dilemma about how I understand the prophecies of the end of the age. And here I am preaching my way through to book of 1 Thessalonians in my first series as the pastor at Garden City Church. Through the reading of a book by pastor Kim Riddlebarger I have come to the conclusion that this is the best interpretation of the Biblical data. What is that position? It is called Amillennialism. Unfortunately it flies in the face of much of modern Bible teaching. I do not chose it to be different, but instead because as I said a moment ago, it is the best interpretation of the Biblical data.
Though I am certainly in the minority in our time I am in great company historically. From Augustine to John Calvin to the Westminster Divines and through the 18th century it is the dominant view in the Church. Interestingly enough however I find myself in a congregation that is more in the contemporary mainstream with regard to this doctrine. So listen to a guy defend an Amillennial view of the Rapture to a Dispensational, Premillennial congregation and see what you think.
Let me know if it is at all persuasive and what you think of this one. I would really appreciate it!
