The Prodigal’s Happy Providence

Well it has been a few months since I had the opportunity to preach at a Rescue Mission. Last Wednesday night I got to go to the Lima Rescue Mission for the first time. The Lord laid on my heart the parable of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15:11-32. I really enjoyed the diversion of studying the passage. My goal was (as it should always be I suppose) to try and take the men back to the original telling of the story as much as possible, giving them as much cultural background as I could to help them see the really scandalous nature of this story. It is only then that it can be really understood properly. I know that many people, even non-Christians are familiar with this story and it is widely regarded as a great piece of literature. That is all well and good but that was not Jesus point when He gave it two millennia ago.

I won’t give it away. I really think all of us, Believer or not should get a hold of the truth of this parable. It is only then that we can begin to know what God is like.
