ADVENT Week 2 – Prophecies of Christ

The second week of Advent is a time to reflect upon the Word of God and
see with what power and clarity this coming of God’s Messiah is
proclaimed. It is so amazing to me that God’s Word is so full of His promises, especially regarding the coming of Jesus into the world. It takes a hard heart to deny this but most heads are to hard to even look at the evidence here.

Today we began with Peter’s reference to the prophets who diligently inquired as to what or what manner of time they were
speaking to as they gave God’s messages in their own time. As we sang the songs of the season this morning we looked at their words, prophesies from the Scriptures and we could have gone on literally for a week and not gotten to every one of them that is in the Bible.

Isaiah 7:14 – Matthew 1:23
O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom
captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son
of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O
Israel.

Isaiah 11:1 – Romans 15:12
O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from
Satan’s tyranny
From depths of Hell Thy people save
And give
them victory o’er the grave
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall
come to thee, O Israel.

Isaiah 60:1 – Luke 1:78
O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and
cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy
clouds of night
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice!
Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Isaiah 22:22 – Revelation 3:7
O come,
Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make
safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to
misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O
Israel.

This morning was a Sampler Platter of those prophecies. Even from this limited look at the we can take away a Hope
which is set on a sure foundation of the promises of God. A hope, that is a confident expectation that if God was able to bring His plan this far we can be assured that He will complete it.

I pray that as you listen that you see God’s ability and His faithfulness and that from it you draw hope.
