The Lord Sustained Me

Have you ever really blown it? I mean really blown it big time and then
the consequences set in. Usually at that point we resign ourselves to
the idea that we are on our own. What would God want to do with someone
like me? I am a wicked and sinful person. It is easy to develop that
kind of attitude when we are justly suffering in the consequences of
our own sin.

Yet as we look at the third Psalm we see that as David was
very much in this situation. After his great sin of adultery and murder as he stole Bathsheba and murdered her husband, Uriah the Hittite God promised that the sword would not depart from his house. And as David is writing Psalm 3 he is fleeing for his life from Absalom his own son who is trying to take over the kingdom. David is being pursued by thousands of soldiers who desire to kill him so that Absalom can reign. What is his response? It is to cry out to God and take
real confidence in His grace and mercy. This is a lesson that we need
to learn as well.

Consequences are real! We need to be aware of this. Yet we also need to be aware that in the midst of consequences that God is the same loving and forgiving and restoring God that He has always been. God is faithful to His promise to forgive the penitent sinner. That is the business that He is in. Jesus said;  Mark 2:17   “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Where have you messed up? What consequences are you living with? Maybe it is that God desires to make you realize that you need Him. He will give you peace in the midst of those consequences as you trust Him. We all need to understand that He is there to provide forgiveness as we trust in Him and in the sacrifice of Jesus for the very sin that brought about those consequences.

I pray that as you listen to the audio of this sermon that you would experience this peace and forgiveness!
