They Believed

As we see the women come to the tomb in John 20 it begins a flow of
events that encompass a week as Jesus reveals Himself to His disciples.
In the course of this time they realize that God had spoken of these
events before hand through the Scriptures and through Jesus’ own words
to the disciples. ( John 2:19
Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three
days I will raise it up.” 20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken
forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three
days?” 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore,
when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had
said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which
Jesus had said.

It was when their experience was corroborated by the
Word of God that faith became real. It is so important to realize this
even for us as 21st century believers. Our faith must be what God says
it must be. Faith in our faith is worthless, faith in God’s Word is
what saves. So many people rely upon their own experiences or the experiences or teaching of others which do not agree with the plain teaching of the Bible. This is nothing more than mere superstition. This is dangerous because it causes people to rely on something other than God’s Word, the standard of truth as we saw Jesus say back in John 17

On What do you base your relationship to God? On feelings? On a system of religion that is not based upon the Word of God? Or on God’s inspired and infallible truth?

I pray that as you listen and see how the disciples came to faith that it will encourage you to evaluate what you believe and why and possibly to follow in their footsteps.
