This week I went back into John 10 to look at another side of Jesus’ discussion about the shepherds and the sheep. It was a good opportunity to take a message from the Seniors’ Home and adapt it to the audience at the Detroit Rescue Mission. Audio this week is from the mission.
All of the promises of God are yes and amen! As we look again at
Jesus teaching in John 10 regarding His sheep and what He is giving
them. Jesus says, my Sheep know me and I give them eternal life. This
promise is based on Jesus’ claim to be able to take His life back again
once He has laid it down for His sheep (John 10:17-18).
This is a profound promise with
an amazing guarantee. As Christians we need to lay hold of that promise
and understand exactly who it is and how He guarantees it to His sheep. There is a great amount of historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. It is based upon the testimony of the most reliable ancient document in the world, the New Testament! As Christians we are often called on to defend our faith and the Bible commands us to ready to do so (1 Peter 3:15). Not only is this important in an apologetic sense however, it is also a great source of comfort and assurance to the Christian to know the reality of Jesus’ promise and the basis on which He offers us eternal life.
I pray that as you listen to this message that you are encouraged in both of these areas.
